Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities Course

Level 2

This course helps prepare students to successfully pass the Province of Manitoba Power Engineer Refrigeration Class exam.The course follows the SOPEEC (The Standardization of Power Engineer Examinations Committee) Syllabus, which includes chapters on welding, air conditioning and electricity have been added. The course syllabus provides more detail on the new course material.

Students will receive 900 credit hours towards the required 1,800 hours to write the provincial exam, when they pass both Levels I & II course assessments.

Course Materials

In addition to the PanGlobal textbooks, the following items will be referenced throughout the course:

Organizations are encouraged to purchase a set of books for their facility as they will be a good resource to have on hand and will be able to be used by other staff preparing to write the provincial exam. E-Textbooks are available to rent from  PanGlobal.

Limited number of textbooks are also available to rent for the duration of the course from Recreation Manitoba.

Course manuals will be provided to each participant and are yours to keep.

Pre-requisite: 

  • Successful completion of Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities – Level I
  • Minimum 900 working hours in a refrigeration class plant

Recommended: 

  • Students should have a good understanding of Mathematics at the Grade 12 level
  • Familiarity with refrigeration plants

Specific Course info

Course to be held in person at the Sport for Life Building located at 145 Pacific Avenue in Winnipeg. Participants must have access to a vehicle as a visit to an arena is part of the course.

Course is slated to be in person. Should a shift to virtual be required the first three days will be held October 3, 4, and 5, 2022 virtually with the in person portion taking place October 13 and 14, 2022

Participants are given the option to write the provincial exam as part of the course. If you are writing the provincial refrigeration exam, upon registering for Level 2 with Recreation Manitoba, the following two documents must be completed and sent to back to the Recreation Manitoba Office (info@recreationmb.ca)  before September 1 in order to be eligible to write the refrigeration exam as.

  • $20 for shipping
  • $60 for participants who wish to write the provincial refrigeration exam

Cancellations

Cancellations less a $35 admin fee will be allowed up until four weeks prior to the course. After four weeks no refund will be given however a credit to a future course maybe considered on a case by case basis.
