Data can feel intimidating—but for most organizations, the data they need to understand impact, improve programs, and strengthen funding applications already exists. How to Use the Data You’re Already Collecting is a 60-minute workshop designed to help nonprofit professionals better understand, organize, and use the data they routinely collect as part of everyday operations. This session focuses on identifying the types of data organizations already gather through programs, services, and administrative processes, and how that information can be used more intentionally. Participants will explore what data is most useful, why certain data should be collected, and how to begin simple, realistic tracking practices that fit within existing capacity and workflows. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the value of data as one side of the impact story—providing statistics, counts, trends, and descriptive information that complement storytelling and qualitative narratives. Rather than introducing complex systems or advanced analysis, this workshop prioritizes clarity, practicality, and sustainability. By the end of the session, participants will feel more confident recognizing the value of their existing data, identifying meaningful gaps (if any), and taking manageable first steps toward using data more effectively for communication, decision-making, and accountability.
