Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities Course

Level 2


NOTE: The course will be delivered online via Zoom from Monday November 08 to Wednesday November 10. It will be in person Thursday November 18 and Friday November 19 in Winnipeg at the St Norbert Community Centre. 

We are proud to now offer the Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities Level 2 course (formerly known as Arena /Curling Rink Operator Course). This course helps prepare students to successfully pass the Province of Manitoba Power Engineer Refrigeration Class exam.

The course follows the SOPEEC (The Standardization of Power Engineer Examinations Committee) Syllabus, which includes chapters on welding, air conditioning and electricity have been added. The course syllabus provides more detail on the new course material.

Students will receive 900 credit hours towards the required 1,800 hours to write the provincial exam, when they pass both Levels I & II course assessments.

Course Materials

In addition to the PanGlobal textbooks, the following items will be referenced throughout the course:

Organizations are encouraged to purchase a set of books for their facility as they will be a good resource to have on hand and will be able to be used by other staff preparing to write the provincial exam. Textbooks are however available to rent for the duration of the course from Recreation Manitoba.

Course manuals will be provided to each participant and are yours to keep.

Pre-requisite: 

  • Successful completion of Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities – Level I
  • Minimum 900 working hours in a refrigeration class plant

Recommended: 

  • Students should have a good understanding of Mathematics at the Grade 12 level
  • Familiarity with refrigeration plants

Upon registering for Level 2 with Recreation Manitoba, the following two documents must be completed and sent to back to the Recreation Manitoba Office (info@recreationmb.ca)  before November 1 to be eligible to write the exam.
