This course helps prepare students to successfully pass the Province of Manitoba Power Engineer Refrigeration Class exam. The course follows the SOPEEC (The Standardization of Power Engineer Examinations Committee) Syllabus, which includes chapters on welding, air conditioning and electricity.

The course syllabus provides more detail on the  course material.

Students will receive 900 credit hours towards the required 1,800 hours to write the provincial exam, when they pass both Levels I & II course assessments.

Course Materials

Recreation Manitoba is no longer renting textbooks to participants. Textbooks and E-Textbooks are available for purchase from  PanGlobal.

Refrigeration Plant Operator-Books 1,2,3,4 [Ed. 4] (Printed or ebook available) Only 4th edition text will be referenced in this course.

In addition to the PanGlobal textbooks, the following items will be referenced throughout the course:

  • Manitoba Power Engineers Act – provided on the first day of the course – also available online
  • Manitoba Steam and Pressure Plants Act – provided on the first day of the course – also available online
  • Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety Act – provided on the first day of the course – also available online
  • Academic Supplement ISBN 1‐77251‐073‐7
  • Course binder will be provided to each participant. 

Pre-requisite: 

  • Successful completion of Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities – Level I
  • Minimum 900 working hours in a refrigeration class plant

Recommended: 

  • Students should have a good understanding of Mathematics at the Grade 12 level
  • Familiarity with refrigeration plants

Specific Course info

Participants must have access to a vehicle as a visit to an arena is part of the course.

Participants are given the option to write the provincial exam as part of the course. If you are writing the provincial refrigeration exam, upon registering for Level 2 with Recreation Manitoba, the following two documents must be completed and sent back to the Recreation Manitoba Office (info@recreationmb.ca)  before September 18 in order to be eligible to write the provincial refrigeration exam.

Cancellations

Cancellations less a $35 admin fee will be allowed up until four weeks prior to the course. After four weeks no refund will be given however a credit to a future course maybe considered on a case by case basis.
