Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities Course Level 1 

Recreation Manitoba is pleased to offer the Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities course. This course is designed to help prepare students to successfully pass the Province of Manitoba Power Engineer Refrigeration Class exam.

The course follows the SOPEEC (The Standardization of Power Engineer Examinations Committee) Syllabus. The Student Syllabus.pdf  provides more detail on the course material and includes a copy of the daily schedule. 

The following items will be referenced throughout the course:

  • Pan Global Refrigeration Operator 4th Edition Books 1-4 - ebook provided. 
  • Pan Global Academic Supplement 2.0 - employer should provide, limited copies available on loan from Recreation Manitoba. 
  • CSA Standards B51/B52 - employer should provide, limited copies available on loan from Recreation Manitoba.
  • Manitoba Power Engineers Act – provided in course binder – also available online
  • Manitoba Steam and Pressure Plants Act – provided in course binder – also available online
  • Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety Act – provided in course binder – also available online

New this year: Students will be provided with an ebook (Pan Global Refrigeration Operator 4th edition books 1-4) and additional online learning resources. 

Organizations are encouraged to purchase a copy of Pan Global's Academic Supplement 2.0 and CSA Standards B51/B52for their facility, and should be provided to your staff attending this course. A limited number are available for loan during courses, but must be reserved upon registration. 

Pre-requisite: 

  • Participants will be sent a pre-course assignment which must be completed in advance of the first day of classes. 

Recommended: 

  • To be successful in this course it is advised that students have an understanding of basic mathematics and physics. 
  • Familiarity with refrigeration plants

Upon successful completion of Level 1 & 2 courses, students will receive 900 credit hours towards the 1800 experiential hours required for ITS licensing. For more information on licensing please explore the Pathways to Refrigeration.
