Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities Course

Level 1


Recreation Manitoba is pleased to offer the Refrigeration Operator for Recreation Facilities course (formerly known as Arena /Curling Rink Operator Course). This course helps prepare students to successfully pass the Province of Manitoba Power Engineer Refrigeration Class exam.

The course follows the SOPEEC (The Standardization of Power Engineer Examinations Committee) Syllabus, which includes chapters on welding, air conditioning and electricity. The   provides more detail on the course material.

Students will receive 900 credit hours towards the required 1,800 hours to write the provincial exam, when they pass both Levels I & II course assessments.

Course Materials

In addition to the PanGlobal textbooks, the following items will be referenced throughout the course:

Organizations are encouraged to purchase a set of books for their facility as they will be a good resource to have on hand and will be able to be used by other staff preparing to write the provincial exam. Textbooks are however available to rent for the duration of the course from Recreation Manitoba.

Course manuals will be provided to each participant and are yours to keep.

Pre-requisite: 

  • None

Recommended: 

  • Students should have a good understanding of Mathematics at the Grade 12 level
  • Familiarity with refrigeration plants
